Difference Between ERP Software and CRM

Enterprise resource planning is fully integrated software that has functionality for all the core aspects of business and integrates all the departments of the organization while customer relationship management application or software focuses on the activities related to customers like, quotes, contracts, service, reminders, service reminders etc. ERP ensures better and real time integration and communication between all the departments of the organization for increasing profitability while CRM enhances customer relationship management, acts as a front desk of the organization and an information center for sales people. Some critical information which can be very useful for the sales people but may not be available at the right time due to slow processing of the data is avoided with the use of CRM software.

CRM software alone may not be the solution for all the problems necessary to be resolved for better business. That is where ERP comes in, its capability to bring the other modules of the organization like manufacturing, product development, marketing, warehouse, inventory etc under one umbrella provides the link to CRM application to look into the organization for updated information to provide it to its user. If an organization uses CRM with ERP, for every new order the CRM application can communicate with the warehouse for the availability of the required stocks and if ready stocks are not available then with the production module to check its availability at the earliest and can provide its customer the exact shipping date of the product at one instance. Whole of this activity can be done without any manual interference which not only saves valuable man hours but organizations can be assured of 24 hours working and support to their valuable customers.

ERP and CRM software can work independently too but together they provide the edge which an organization needs to increase its business. The enhanced and proper working within the organization and real time complete information to the sales people can help them in generating the new business. Not only for new business these two software together also help in better customer retention for regular business. CRM can help in making customer aware about new products, its qualities and comparisons which can make the task of sales people easier. For service based industries CRM can be more than simple software as it can ensure prompt and timely services with regular reminders and can provide to staff the necessary details of previous calls and support given to a particular customer.

Customer feedbacks, inquiries and complaints are always in the form of unstructured data but it can be an extremely valuable source of information and basis of the organization’s new strategy and planning to have more and more satisfied customers. CRM software can transform this data into valuable information without any manual interference and time wastage. This information supplied to the management can be used to make changes in the organizations working and can be easily implemented with the help of ERP software.

CRM and ERP software are complimentary to each other and can work together for better business management of the organization in any industry. Some ERP software come with inbuilt CRM module in the main application while most of the ERP software provide this software as separate module which can communicate with different ERP software.

Naming a Consulting Company

With the economy on the skids, many experienced mid and upper level professionals are striking out on their own, leveraging their expertise to build their own future and control their own destiny. For many of these aspiring entrepreneurs, creating a compelling brand name is new territory, a complete and utter mystery. They know it’s an important part of the equation, and they may have even had a full time marketing department at their previous firm. But now it’s “do-it-yourself-time,” and there’s a dearth of information on how to brand a new consulting company successfully. Fear no more. The first step in branding a consulting company is to know your objectives. Here are four key questions to clarify your goals…

1. Do you want your company name to stand out, or fit in? This may seem like a trick question, but there is not a right or wrong answer. Some new consultants are so concerned with gaining acceptance in their industry, they are much more comfortable with a name that sounds established and credible, right from the outset. If that’s the case, try looking up a list of others in your industry on sites such as dmoz.org. You will then gain a sense of the nomenclature used in your field. You may be able to emulate the feel, much like other industries have done (i.e. Microsoft’s Outlook, Apple’s Safari, Netscape’s Navigator, etc.) If want to gain notice, then do just the opposite. Look at the company names in your field and use interpretive naming strategies. For example, if nearly everyone in your category uses proper names (sometimes known as “legacy” names) then go with a metaphor (i.e. Jaguar, Caterpillar, Amazon, Monster, etc.) to convey your company’s attributes. Or try positive connotation words to create an entirely new identity (i.e. RedHat, OnStar, FireDog, etc.) Just make sure you have a rationale that can explain why you chose that name, and one that leads to a deeper dialog about your company.

2. Have you explored all the possibilities? Frequently, new business owners become frustrated and discouraged when naming their new businesses, simply because they’ve attempted only one or two naming strategies. Many times they’ve created a list of literal/functional names, (i.e. Custom Software Consulting) only to find the domain names are gone. Or they’ve attempted some obvious metaphors (i.e. Summit, Pinnacle, etc.) and found dozens of companies with similar names. The trick is to employ several methods. These include…

* Key attributes — For an example, we named one staffing company BrightHire.com based on their desire to attract the most intelligent candidates. You can see this employed with company names such as SirSpeedy, EconoLodge, Priceline and Smart Cuts. Is there an overarching benefit you provide that you can incorporate into your name?

* Invented names — This is a favorite with consultants but proceed with caution. It’s easy to get caught up in with the chase of a new name and gradual twist the spelling and message until it’s unintelligible. It’s okay to use Latin word parts and obscure references if the name can still be spoken and spelled easily. Small firms have the advantage of conveying part of the brand message in person, over the phone, or at a trade conference. But don’t push it. If you find yourself having to constantly spell or correct the spelling, then it’s a miss. And keep in mind the name can be invented and still carry a sense of meaning. We named one company Claricent, because they were able to provide clear insight and direction to their client base. So you can still convey an attribute, even in an invented name. (i.e Verizon = Horizon, Agilent =Agile, etc.)

* Descriptive Hybrid Names — These names combine an industry descriptor word and marry it with an evocative word. Examples include companies such as Emisstar, consultants in the emissions control industry. Big brand examples include JetBlue and CarMax. If you use this approach, just be sure that your industry descriptor is one that won’t change over time.

* Metaphors — Since the proverbial “picture paints a thousand words”, then metaphors are a great way to convey multiple company attributes with a single image. FourBridges Capital, for example, expresses this investment banking firm’s ability to “bridge the gap” and “connect business with capital,” etc. With four major partners and four major bridges in Chattanooga, TN, the story gains even more traction.

3. Have you prioritized your wants? Starting a new consultancy provides a beautiful blank page upon which to craft your story. Take time to determine what is most important in that story.

* Do you want a name that’s memorable?

* Do you want a name that’s easy to say and spell?

* Are you most concerned with trademark?

* Are you adamant that to have the exact matching.com domain name? Figure out the key driver(s) behind your naming challenge, so that when you come down to a final list, you can look back and pick the one that meets your top criteria. Often the process can get foggy and unfocused after a prolonged search for a name, and all the words start sounding alike. So be sure you know what you want before you begin. That way it will help you when it’s 3 a.m., your eyes start to cross, and your spouse no longer wants to be your sounding board.

4. Are you seeing the big picture? — Create a short list of your favorite names, and then test them out. Make sure you choose people who are either in your potential market, or who understand good branding. Rather than randomly tossing names around, create some context for each name, so that when the name is said, it falls into place. You may even want to invest in some quick logo treatments to help visualize the brand. Many major brand names would ring hallow if only spoken. Judge the whole package… name, rough tagline, sketch of logo, to get the real feel. A consulting name such as BearingPoint gains traction once it has a logo, tag line, and a story line. Decide if you want to fit in or stand out, utilize multiple naming strategies, prioritize your “wants” list, and test your ideas, and you’ll be well on your way to a great consulting company brand name. Once you make your selection, be sure to run it by your trademark attorney and to acquire the matching, or closely matching, com domain name. Continue to integrate your brand message throughout your web site, corporate identity, collateral materials and advertising to further strengthen your presence. If done properly, you will have a company name that serves you well, both now and for years to come.

How to Find Windows Help Online

If you have a PC that is running Windows, sooner or later you are going to need help.  Windows help is available through a variety of sources, online, by phone, or even through live chat.  You can of course opt to take your PC to your local computer store or expert as well, but with a desktop unit that gets to be a real nuisance.

Find Windows Help Online
If you need help for a specific problem, you can always open a window in your favorite browser and type in “Windows help” and define the problem. Many websites, some reliable and some less trustworthy can be found on the Web.  If you can, I suggest you stick to assistance offered on Windows monitored sites.

The unfortunate fact is that there are many people giving advice on how to make your computer work better, but few actually know what they are doing and how their advice will affect your PC.

Few machines remain at factory specs for long, and those changes you have made to customize your computer may be incompatible with some of the help offered.  If you have a reasonable level of computer proficiency, this option may work out for you.

Microsoft also maintains support and help for Windows products for some time after they are no longer offered on the market.  Still, eventually they do stop supporting older versions with the intent of encouraging you to modernize.  At that point, you really are dependent upon others for Windows help.

Contacting Microsoft Directly
There are two basic ways to contact Microsoft; email and online.  If you opt for email you may need to wait a few days while they get back to you.  This isn’t satisfying or effective.

If you have maintained an extended service contract with Microsoft, you should be able to utilize their customer service department to get all the help you need.  Actual people often operate this, but I can’t guarantee where in the world your help is sitting.

Online you can find several service options and help links.  Common, basic problems are outlined by utility, and you can attempt to find the correct problem, run some analysis, and then try to fix the problem.  Having tried some of these solutions, I know that some are easier and others impossibly confusing for me.

Get Windows Running Fast with Registry Cleaners
If you are having general problems running your Windows software, then a good registry cleaner may be just what you need.  When Windows help fails you, or you just don’t feel up to delving into the complex operating system to fix errors, a registry cleaner will do it for you.

Document Management Systems for the Food and Drink Industry

Meat, poultry, milk and juice producers have long been regulated by the FDA and/or the USDA. Recent outbreaks of salmonella and other deadly bacteria as well as additional mishaps in food production and manufacturing plants have caused the FDA to warn that many other food products may soon be regulated as well. These products include produce, peanuts and other similarly mercurial foodstuffs. Consumers–without a doubt–would agree that it would be best for every food product to be strictly regulated. Food mishaps, whether they are caused knowingly or unknowingly, can often lead to pain, suffering and/or death to the consumer, and in many cases, jail time for the food producer.

The Solution
For many food and drink auditors the solution to the food industry crisis is probably crystal clear. Quality management systems—including strict document control—is the key to keeping deviations and nonconformance events strictly in check. Whether a food or drink company is regulated or not regulated by the FDA and/or USDA that company should develop a quality management system that will comply with HACCP, ISO 22000, and ISO 9001:2008 standards as well as 21 CFR Part 11 requirements. The process may seem daunting but the alternative is certainly worse.

Document Management Systems
Managing documentation of all types—and especially quality-related documentation—is the lifeblood of a food and drink quality management system. SOPs, quality manuals and other documentation should be strictly managed. This process is very difficult when managed manually but is simple with document management systems technology. When searching for document management systems, Food and Drink representatives should look for a software developer that provides industry expertise along with its software and a very sound understanding of the regulations that must be met with the assistance of the document management systems. The practicality of meeting ROI with increased production speeds and better quality processes must also be manifested by the provider’s current customers. Otherwise, what would be the purpose of investment? Another issue to consider is that of convincing upper management. If you as a representative or your company think that the upper management won’t buy it then call the software provider and see what materials and presentations they can provide that are designed specifically to address the needs and wants of upper management representatives (e.g, bottom line, financial projections, etc.)

Start-Up Document Management Systems
For many companies in the Food and Drink industry the issue not investing in document management systems isn’t based on a lack of enthusiasm for quality management or document control. Often the issue is simply one of unavailable finance. Many Food and Drink companies would like to invest in document management systems that have been integrated with a quality management system but can’t seem to find the revenue to do so. What is the solution?

The Solution is Simple
The demand today for document management systems is so high that many software developers are investing in smaller solutions that can grow as a company grows. Many of these solutions are even industry specific designed with a Food and Drink, medical device or legal company in mind. These solutions, when chosen carefully are often reasonably priced and perfectly suited for Food and Drink companies that are striving to develop a quality management system that streamlines complete compliance without breaking the bank.

Document Management Systems Integrated with Training Management
Another common problem for the Food and Drink industry is managing training processes and proving that trainees have been thoroughly trained and have the skills necessary to perform their duties according to defined work descriptions established in SOPs, etc. Almost every quality management regulation and/or standard is going to require training management along with document management so why not look for a start-up solution that integrates document management systems with training management capabilities? Food and Drink companies can benefit from automated triggers (which automatically release a training course or a series of training units when a document undergoes a major revision).

Silverlight uninstaller – How to force uninstall Silverlight you cannot uninstall

At one point or another, this happens to every computer user in the world: You install Silverlight, find out that you don’t like it, or need it, or that its plain useless for the task you wanted to use it for and you want to uninstall Silverlight. So you open up the Windows Add/Remove tool, click the button to uninstall Silverlight… and find out that you cannot uninstall the program. In this article I will try to explain how to force uninstall Silverlight, that you cannot uninstall using the Windows Add/Remove tool. Before that, however, I will try to explain what happens during installation.

What you need to know to uninstall a program manually

There are several things that happen during the installation of a program.

First, of course, is the copying of files to the specified program folder (which is usually somewhere inside the Program Files folder). Also some files such as shared libraries (.dll files) can be copied into a folder inside Program Files called Common Files and some files such as drivers or shared libraries (again) are copied into the ‘WINDOWSSystem32′ and ‘WINDOWSSystem32drivers’ folders.

After that the installer makes some changes inside the windows registry. The windows registry is a unified place where all the settings for programs and for windows itself are stored. The installer can make changes inside the registry for several reasons. For example if a shared library needs to be registered. Or if certain types of files need to be associated with the program being installed, so that the user could open them (e.g. if you install Microsoft Word, then you will be able to open Microsoft Word documents). After this is done, a key is added to the windows registry in a place where the Windows Add/Remove tool looks for installed programs. During the installation all these operations are logged in a special file (e.g. setup.log), and the installation program usually puts that file inside the application’s folder along with the uninstaller. When a user tries to remove Silverlight through the Add/Remove tool, windows looks for the registered uninstaller inside the registry, and executes it. The uninstaller goes through the log file and undoes all the changes done during installation. That is, it deletes all the files that have been copied, all the registry keys the installer created etc.

However, if there is no log file, or if there is no record of the changes made to the registry the uninstaller might fail to uninstall Silverlight, and it will stay there untill it is removed by other means.

So if Silverlight won’t uninstall, how do you perform a force uninstall?

Well, if you know how to work with the windows registry, you probably can perform a manual force uninstall.

Before I go into detail about how to do this manually, I’d like to say that this is pretty advanced stuff, and if you’re not a power user, then perhaps you should consider using specialized software such as the The Best Uninstall Tool which allows you to do this in just a few clicks.

If you are a power user, then let’s continue. First, let’s see how to remove the program from the list of installed programs. To do that you need to open the registry browser:

  1. Click Start and choose Run in the menu (If you’re using Windows Vista then press Win+R on your keyboard).
  2. Type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. On the left side is the registry settings tree, use it to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall
  4. Inside that key you’ll find a lot of keys that belong to different programs. Some are named after the program’s name, others as a mix of numbers and letters that makes no sense. Look through each of them until you find one that has the key DisplayName (on the right) with your program’s name in it.
  5. Notice the key UninstallString – this key points to the uninstall program, and the log file usually resides in the same folder as that program.
  6. If you delete the key in which you’ve found the DisplayName key with the value equal to your program’s name, then your program won’t appear on the Add/Remove programs list.

Some programs create new entries in the registry to store their configuration options, these entries can usually be found in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware or in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE – look for the program name or the name of the company that made the software. Don’t delete Microsoft though – that contains Windows settings as well.

Next we have to find all the files that have been copied. Open the folder in which the uninstall program should be, and look for files which are named uninstal.log or setup.log or something similar. The list of files that have been installed is inside this file, you can open it in your notepad and find all of the files that have been copied onto your system. Delete the files and you’ll get rid of the program almost fully.

Again, I’d like to stress that if you’re new to the windows registry and all of this stuff, and if you don’t feel like experimenting with your computer, then, again, please consider using either the Best Uninstall Tool or similar software to force uninstall Silverlight, I do not want to be responsible for breaking your computer.

Tips To Speed Up Windows 7

Built to be fast out of the box, it is still possible to speed up Windows 7. In this article, we’ll go through a few tips to squeeze every bit of speed out of Windows 7.

1. If you’re not too interested in eye-candy, you may want to consider disabling the Aero theme. While it gives Windows 7 a modern and spiffy look, it is also very hungry on the system resources. If you want to disable Aero, right-click on the Desktop, click “Personalize” and then select the “Window Color” tab. Then uncheck “Enable Transparency” and then click on “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. You can then choose the Standard Windows 7 theme, or another basic theme instead of Aero. You should notice an increase in performance after that, especially if your computer isn’t very powerful.

2. Reduce the number of visual effects. By disabling some of the visual effects, you can squeeze a bit more speed out of Windows 7. Begin by doing a right-click on “Computer”, then select “Properties”. You will see “Advanced System Settings”. Click on it and the you will see the “System Properties” window. Under the “Advanced” tab, go to “Performance” and then “Settings”. Click “Custom” and you can unselect all the options that you don’t want. After that, click “OK” and restart your computer.

3. Disable the Windows 7 sidebar. Right-click the sidebar and click on “Properties”. Uncheck the box that says “Start sidebar when Windows Starts”.

4. Remove startup items and help Windows start faster. From the Start menu, key in “msconfig” in the “Run” option and the System Configuration Utility will open. Go to the “Startup” tab and unselect the items there that you don’t need.

5. Optimize your Windows registry. The Windows registry is the heart of the operating system. By optimizing it and removing errors from it, the operating system will run better and faster. Use a good registry cleaner software to automatically scan the registry and optimize it.

How the Internet Has Forever Changed Marketing

In the last few years, consumers have changed the way they find what they want, and where they want to get it. Business supplies, concert tickets, and that perfect gift are now on the web, and that’s where many people are going. In the past consumers have responded to direct mail, cold calling, and trade shows in addition to conventional advertising. Those methods are less effective than the internet and also harmful to the environment through toxic ink, paper waste, fuel costs, and other excess energy consumption. With the use of search engines, it is now easy to filter out gimmicks and find what we are looking for directly. The tools are at the tips of our fingers and unlimited. We have access to search engines, social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter), and blogs where we can find information as well as reviews on those services or products we are researching. Therefore, marketers must change their tactics to accommodate how the internet is changing business.

Inbound Marketing is now far more effective. The internet and the emergence of sites such as Google, MSN, Yahoo, Digg and other sites, allow consumers to research what they are looking for without involving the companies directly. “The internet has changed the dynamics of the business world, necessitating from ‘old marketing’ techniques to ‘new marketing’ techniques” (hubspot). Business owners now need to ensure that their website is optimized for this. Website content matters, as well as the location of key words or phrases. To optimize a website, key words must be in the page title, headings, URL, and in the page text. Keeping content fresh and updated is another good way to increase search engine rankings, especially when used in conjunction with viral videos, podcasts, and YouTube videos.

By adding simple tools such as a blog, a site owner creates a unique opportunity for search engine optimization (SEO). However, keep in mind that the blog set up with its own webpage for the best results. Websites are also setting up RSS Feeds. This allows consumers to have their favorite websites send them updates, as opposed to going to each website and searching for the information. Most people have very busy lifestyles and don’t have time to waste. By simply adding this feature, websites are ensuring more visits to their site.

Social networking is a huge way to market to consumers, with 34% believing that businesses should be involved with a social network, while 51% believe they should also interact with consumers through a networking site. After a website has established itself and has more visitors, the designers should add an online form for visitors to register for updates, newsletters or give-a-ways. This also generates new leads for the business. Credible inbound links also generate more traffic to your website and rank your site higher on the search engines.

With all of the “new” technology out there, it is far more effective for advertising dollars to utilize the web and market to consumers in the format that is easiest for them. By capitalizing on the efficiency of the web, businesses can track past search results, and optimize their pages for future searchers. Businesses can also measure numbers of web visitors, website conversion rates (Leads / Visitors), lead conversion rates (Sales from Leads / Leads), and costs per lead or per sale. With the abundance of the marketing tools available online, websites create a relationship with future and current visitors in a cost efficient and “green” way.

Choosing a Colocation Data Center in South Florida, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach

How do you choose a colocation data center in South Florida, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach? First you have to know what colocation – also called colo – is, of course. According to a colocation company which is itself based in South Florida, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach, a collocation data center is what is known as a carrier hotel which provides network, server and storage facilities, as well as interconnection with other telecommunications service providers and network service providers in a simplified process and at lower cost. These are often provided by network access point facilities such as NAP of the Americas.

Colocation companies usually also provide broadband internet access, VoIP, internet network security, managed dedicated colocation hosting, dedicated virtual servers, private networks, data storage and data backup, among other services. They provide companies with the ability to allow load balancing, mirroring and growth which may be difficult to do when a company is using a server that is in-house. Providing such business applications accessed online through the internet with data and software stored on virtual servers in a remote location is also known as cloud computing.

If the clients do not have server equipment of their own, they can lease dedicated virtual servers for a year, renewable, from colocation companies. They may also choose to rent dedicated virtual servers on a monthly basis. This way, they can be flexible and can upsize or downsize the server capacity they are renting, as necessary. Leasing requires minimal cash outlay for setting up as opposed to making an expensive business server purchase.

When leasing dedicated virtual servers, you can choose from unmanaged servers or managed servers. The advantage of leasing unmanaged servers is that the client has full control over all elements of the leased server functions. This includes the server’s operating system, its applications and all web content. On the other hand, it may be more convenient for a client to pay an additional service fee for professional technical assistance in server management.

With dedicated virtual servers clients can, in turn, offer dedicated hosting or managed hosting services since they do not share the server with other companies. They can host multiple websites, as well, and even sell such services. They can get enough disk space and power from their leased server and pass on the competitive pricing to their own clientele.

If the client has its own server equipment complete with the corresponding duly licensed software, it can house its servers in a reliable colocation data center facility. The advantage is that such facilities are state-of-the-art, with environment controls that are carrier class, redundant uninterrupted power supply, and an uptime guarantee of 99.9% founded on a Tier 1 Internet foundation. They also have round the clock maximum security protection. Colocation data centers lease rack space for the client’s servers and provide power, internet access and complementary services such as backup and storage, tape rotation, firewall protection and others. The range of services is flexible and scalable depending on the needs and budget of the client.

Clients who own their server equipment have the option of installing and maintaining their servers by themselves in the collocation data center whenever they need to, or sending all their equipment to the collocation data center to be installed and maintained professionally by technicians of the service provider.

Colocation data centers that offer the lowest prices but do not give an uptime guarantee for your server will not save you money. In fact, you will be putting your entire business at risk if you choose such false economizing options. Any downtime means loss of client trust in your company and you cannot afford this. In choosing a colocation data center in South Florida, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach you should, therefore, choose one with the best uptime guarantee complemented by the finest software, the best operating system and expert technical support.
