Separate the storefront from the surrounding systems

Shopify includes hosting for its online store. A Shopify storefront does not need to be moved onto a DigitalNetHosting server as part of a hosting engagement. A separate server may be relevant for an application, an integration or a marketing site outside Shopify.

Draw a simple system map: what customers visit, what staff use, where each component runs and which connections move orders or inventory. Give each component an owner. This makes the boundary between store work and infrastructure work visible before an estimate.

Start with the workload

DigitalNetHosting’s current bare metal hosting offer uses Liquid Web. Liquid Web offers managed dedicated servers; the selected configuration and management scope must be confirmed for the project. Vendor features are not a promise that every DigitalNetHosting engagement includes the same coverage.

  • Record the applications, versions, data size and busy periods.
  • Identify the integrations and scheduled jobs that must continue running.
  • Agree on backup retention, a restore test and who can approve recovery.
  • Assign responsibility for operating-system changes, application updates and incident escalation.

Plan the move and its reversal

Before a move, agree on the maintenance window, validation steps and a route back to the previous environment. A useful acceptance checklist names the business workflows to test, such as an inventory update arriving in the store or a lead reaching the right team.

After the move, review those workflows with their owners. A page loading successfully is one check; it does not establish that every background task, connection and restore procedure works.

What to bring to a scoping call

Bring the system map, current hosting arrangement, business priorities and known constraints. DigitalNetHosting can scope Liquid Web hosting alongside Shopify, marketing microsites and commercial email sending work. Mailbox hosting and mailbox migration are outside the current offer.

The result should be a written division of responsibilities and an estimate tied to your environment. Server size, support coverage and expected outcomes belong in that agreement.
