Outlander is one of the few hit shows the Starz streaming service has produced. It has been met with acclaim, mostly from fans, and was recently renewed for fifth and sixth seasons. Because the mix of romance, intrigue and historical events is hard to find online, we’ve put together this guide on how to watch Outlander.
Outlander is an interesting mix of elements. It’s the story of Claire Randall, a former wartime nurse who gets transported from the late 1940s into the mid-18th century while investigating legendary standing stones while on a trip to Scotland with her husband.
Scotland can be strange at the best of times, but the time period Claire finds herself in is one of rebellion, when many Scots, especially the Highlanders, were trying to put King Charles on the throne. The Jacobite Rebellions were long and bloody affairs that changed the Highlands forever, spelling an end to Gaelic culture as it existed in Scotland.
On top of all that tumult, there’s plenty of romance in Outlander, too, as Claire finds herself being wooed by many kilted, handsome men. Simultaneously, the show jumps back to the 1940s from time to time to show how Claire’s husband is dealing with her sudden disappearance.
All in all, there’s a lot going on, and Outlander entertains with its many twists and turns, as well as some pretty steamy romance. Let’s see where you can watch it on the internet.
Watch Outlander Online
The easiest way to watch Outlander is to go to Starz and watch it there. That said, it’s only available to U.S. residents, much like, say Hulu (check out our best VPN for Hulu). People from other countries are geoblocked from watching. There are ways around that, which we’ll talk about in a bit. Either way, you get a weeklong trial of the service for free, which should be enough time to see whether you like it enough to stay.
Outside the U.S., your best bet for watching Outlander is Netflix. A quick look around shows that it should be available in most EU countries (we checked Cyprus, the Netherlands and Italy), as well as Canada. Accessing the Netflix of other countries is tricky, though. None of our best free proxy picks, for example, can get past the Netflix VPN ban.
If you want to access other countries’ Netflix offerings or watch Starz from outside of the U.S., you’re going to need a virtual private network. We recommend ExpressVPN because it’s the most Netflix-proof VPN we’ve tested. Though you’ll have to switch servers periodically, at the time of writing, we got through just fine to several countries’, without a proxy error in sight.
If you’d like to know more about ExpressVPN before committing, check out our ExpressVPN review. If you’d like to explore other options, read our best VPN for Netflix article. A quick test shows that all the selections on that list will work on Starz, as well. Besides ExpressVPN, NordVPN and CyberGhost will get you where you want to be.
Watch Outlander Online for Free
Of course, this being the internet and all, you don’t have to pay unless you want to. Rather than have you spit through all the dodgy streaming websites, though, we decided to do the digging and found that the only one that didn’t spam us with a million pop-ups and also carried Outlander was Putlocker.
You may still want to use one of the best pop-up blockers while accessing this website, though, because we’ve received reports in the past of dodgy dealing. Check out our antivirus software reviews, too, just in case the ad blocker isn’t enough.
For those who are more into torrenting than streaming, we also did a quick check on The Pirate Bay and found several active torrents of Outlander, but we couldn’t find one that had all the seasons in one file.
Of course, the usual reservations apply. The torrent may not be what’s advertised and, for all that’s good and holy, you need to use one of the best VPN for torrenting when accessing The Pirate Bay or alternative torrent websites. If you don’t, you may be in for a world of hurt, so enabling a VPN is just the smart move. Our favorite is NordVPN. Read our NordVPN review to find out why.
Watch Outlander with Kodi
Another way to follow Claire’s adventures is by using Kodi, a media platform originally developed for Xbox that’s now available for almost any device. Initial setup is overwhelming, and that’s why we wrote a Kodi guide to make the experience more pleasant.
That said, we weren’t able to find many among the best Kodi add-ons that carried Outlander. We’re guessing that’s because the show hasn’t made that big a name for itself or there’s a discrepancy between fans of Kodi and fans of Scottish adventure romances. Either way, your go-to repo should be cCloud, which has a nice library of TV shows.
Installing cCloud is easy. Just follow the instructions like you would with any other app and you should be good to go. Check out our article on the best VPN for Kodi, though, so you can be sure you’re safe while using the platform.
As you can see, there are plenty of options online for fans of Outlander, though some are better than others. That said, seeing what Claire has been up to shouldn’t be too hard, either. With a few mouse clicks, you can be settled on the couch watching the latest episodes.
